My name is Katie and I was born and raised in Southern California. I've traveled to several different countries, and recently starting driving across the US to visit different National Parks. (I've almost seen every one in California now). I love hot coffee and listening to rock music. I enjoy singing in my car and painting in my free time. I started cutting my hair short over 10 years ago and haven't looked back since. I'm close to my family and love and adore my close friends.
One of my dreams is to capture a wedding or elopement in a destination location - like a National Park or even further in another country!
I've been an artist since I was a child - as soon as I could hold a pencil I would sit in front of the tv and draw the cartoons I saw. I was very shy about my photography for a long time - but now, its one of the things I'm the most proud of. I love to be myself and express myself through art.
I created True Atlas Studios by myself. Everything I do, whether it be marketing, photographing my clients, editing and retouching images, creating this website and posting to social media - all of this is done by me. I can't say that its not intimidating sometimes, as photography can be a very saturated market, especially in big cities like Los Angeles. However, when I started delivering quality products to my clients, getting paid, and most importantly, hearing the kind words and appreciation of my work by my wonderful clients, I know that this was the path I must keep going on. I want to light up the world of my clients like they have lit up my life as I am able to create art day in and day out. I'm excited to learn, develop, and expand as a brand and artist, and I am happily awaiting anyone who wants to contribute to this journey with me..
When I started high school, I always brought a disposable film camera with me to take tons of photos of me and my friends hanging out, going to concerts, and any moments I wanted to share and remember. Then I had an opportunity to take a film photography class in high school which taught me the entire process from beginning to end of shooting with a film camera, developing that film in a dark room, and printing those images on paper. This isn't an experience most people are able to have and it was the base that sparked my interest in photography as a skill and art form.
After community college, I transferred to a professional photography school in Santa Barbara, CA. Here I was able to take my skills as a photographer to the next level: I worked with up-coming models, assisted on shoots, set up lighting in studios, and shot anything and everything that I could. I shot free shoots for my friends and family, even though I was still working on outdated gear and never put any of my work anywhere.
I got lost and caught up in the world and life moving in many directions as happens to many people around this age, and sadly I put the camera down because I didn't have a clue where to start. Right before my birthday, I realized I was missing something big in my life - and that was creating art.
I got a brand new professional camera (as my old set up was 10 years old) and I decided I was going to take my artistic passion and make a business from it.
I honestly think there is no better feeling than supporting your life through your artistic purposes.
